No Reason Not To
I installed this at the same time as all other available springs and trigger, and together, they really brought the pistol up to another level. It's hard to say how much of a difference this makes by itself, but for $10, I see no reason not to. It takes less than a minute to install and has zero drawbacks.

This Stainless Steel Guide Rod should last a very long time. It fits and works perfectly!!!
Very nice quality
I purchased this guide rod along with the Mcarbo takedown pin for the LCP Max. The Mcarbo guide rod is smooth and very well machined.
Some people have reported seeing galling on the stock Ruger guide rod. If so, look for metal burrs surrounding the hole in the slide that the guide rod passes through when the slide is retracted. You will want those burrs removed before using your new and stronger Mcarbo SS guide rod.
Smooth stainless steel finish
Visually seems to be the exact length, width and shape of the original. Very smooth stainless steel finish. The original had galling seen through the black finish with 500 rounds. I am sure this will remain "as is" with a micro dot of oil after cleaning.
Upgrade
Cost effective upgrade. Very slick and solid built. Keeping the factory guide rod as an emergency backup, however, I doubt this stainless one will ever fail. The slide operates nice and smooth as the springs slide on this guiderod.

Probably not really needed to replace the original steel rod, but I like stainless steel

Works well. Not sure absolutley needed, but prefer the stainless steel rod even if only for the looks when I tear down the gun for cleaning.
Is the Ruger lcp Max guide rod same as the LCP II guide rod? Also, can the Lcp Max heavy duty stress-proof takedown pin used in the LCP II 22Lr hand gun?
