Did a full upgrade on my PC Ruger this weekend replaced the Edge Extractor, Shock Buffer, Bolt Head and Extractor Pins, SS Recoil Spring Retainer, and SS Trigger Pin Group Pin Kit. Very happy with the quality of these replacement parts over the factory parts.
This is a "no brainer" component add to the bolt shock buffer replacement installation. The factory retainer is plastic and will eventually fail in the high impact stresses of the buffer and recoil spring function.
I purchased this part and installed it in accordace with the video by the President of Mcarbo. Although it is very stylish don't let it fool you. It took me about a month to get out to the range after installation and right away problems. The Stainless Steel Recoil Spring Retainer would not hold open on the last round and would only fire one round at a time while having to chamber every round. I emailed and called Mcabro several times "NO ONE HAS REACHED OUT TO ME BY PHONE OR EMAIL". I took the gun to a gunsmith and was still having the same problem until I reinstalled the original Recoil Spring Retainer and it's all working as perfectly normal as before. The take away from this is everything that looks good/stylish is "NOT".

Bought my carbine brand new. after a few reviews suggested some upgrades I purchased this item and installed it on a rife with less than 10 rounds fired. i feel better with the metal vs plastic piece.

Great videos made the installation quick and easy. Good upgrade for the money. My only question is why isn't there a "bundle" package for this and the buffer.
Perfect part as usual. The OEM plastic Retainer was showing wear early on. I’m confident this will last, and if I ever drop it will be easy to find. Thank you M*CARBO!
The Original recoil clip was plastic, under any load, eventually breaks. It’s great that Mcarbo came through again, and gave us a part same as the original design, but now in quality stainless steel. My rifle now, with the all the upgraded parts from mcarbo, has no weak points. Thanks again Mcarbo for listening, and for providing great parts, at reasonable prices.
Five stars are for ease of installation but you got to watch out for the recoil spring pressure.
Just knowing that I don't have something plastic on a piece that takes pressure on every single cycle of the trigger gives me peace of mind. If you're not sure how, just follow along with the great videos provided. Thanks for seeing this as a point of failure and being proactive with us the end users!
Almost every time I can buy a quality metal product to replace a piece of plastic…. Especially in a part such as this… I WILL DO SO!!! Seems like it is MUCH BETTER…. than the factory retainer clip…. Looks to be Quality made….
Why wouldn’t you dump the Ruger factory plastic retainer for the MCARBO’s machined stainless one??? Duhhhhh….
Received my recoil spring retainer yesterday. The part arrived in three days even Amir all these postal and virus upheavals. The retainer is a definite improvement over the plastic stock part, is very well finished, and should last the life of this gun. Thank you MCarbo!
Why leave a potential point of failure in your Carbine? This is a high quality part and only leads to strengthen the buffer group of your Carbine.
