This kit was well thought out and it works! I did two sp101's with this kit and results were spectacular these revolvers now feel like custom gun smithing smooth double action and precise light single delivery was very quick...Capt John
Bought this set to install in yet another Ruger revolver, which says a lot. MCarbo has two great insights. The ends of the springs are cut off flush, and can't hang or catch on the internals. The other is taking a Dremel tool and Flitz to the innards. Triggers break like glass, especially if you get really meticulous with the polishing. Not sure whether Chris added this to the video since the last time I did one, or I just missed it the first two times but applying a dab of the included PTFE inside of the grip frame to aid in getting the trigger assembly to snick into place without tapping, or worse, with a hammer. Also not sure whether this is a feature, but the matte stainless finish on this latest revolver seemed to have more rough edges on the inside. Might just be my unit, though. Took a bit more time to polish things, but it was worth the effort. I've worked over a lot of my guns over the a lot of years using a lot of aftermarket parts, but I've come to swear by the MCarbo kits.
I have 3 ruger revolvers. The SP101 has the potential to be the perfect revolver for me, just between the lightweight LCR and the giant GP100, with the size to fit my hand and the weight to handle .357 recoil. It just needs a better trigger. This kit brings out the true potential of the gun. I am no gunsmith- never done anything like this, and with the video the instal went perfect and I just got back from the range, shot 150 rounds through it with the new springs. Awesome! I also added a hogue grip and now this revolver is perfect. Thanks Chris Nelson for all the attention to detail! for just a few bucks this changes the whole experience.
I just finished up my second trigger job using this mcarbo spring and shim kit. The first was an sp101 357mag snub nose, this second one is a gp100 357mag 6” barrel. I’ve done trigger jobs before with springs from other places. But this spring kit with the shims is the only way to go! I did my sp101 a few years ago, and it’s my edc still today. But I’m a little more impressed with job I did on my gp100, unlike the sp101 it had a decent trigger to start with, but it’s even better now! I also polished the whole gun on the gp100. Here’s before and after pics.
Night and day difference in the SP101 trigger, follow the video instructions, The Trigger Plunger can be installed first before working with the trigger shims and it easier to put the transfer bar in place and and use paperclip rather than a screwdriver, to install the pawl, springer and plunger allowing you to have a finger to move the paul and lock the plunger in place,
after watching video several times I ordered kit. very fast shipping time to do the whole polishing and spring and shim took about 2 hours. went to range shot 35 rounds very great feel and accuracy improvement
Great kit. Super fast shipping my first time buying from here but will not be the last. Quality parts. Trigger pull went from 14.5 to 8.5. Doesn’t even feel like a double action any more. Notice firing pin strikes we’re almost identical to the ones prior to work. Zero fail to fires. Great kit and service
I already had the gp100 (357) disassembled and polished when I received the trigger kit. A couple of issues with my particular gp100, 1. no hole in the handle frame to get a punch through. 2. A 1/4" drill would not work to deburr spring housing , i.e it would require milling, the 15/64 with sand paper could not be used either so I stepped the bit size down with 1000 grit the polish and its good. I think the GP100 in 357mag starting with 173- was manufactured that way. Minimal shimming was required. Average trigger break 4.3 lbs, most excellent. T Campbell QMC(SW)/CM, USN Ret.
Really sweet kit for my Sp 101 ruger and my Gp 100 now the ease of double action and very smooth single action... it’s a update you will be glad you installed .. I’m a very happy customer is all I can say ...
installing this kit was very easy since I had the video to go by if I had any problems. I also printed off the disassembly photos in case I needed them. The job took me 3 hours as I went very slow so I didnt make a mistake. I did need to look at assembly pictures to see correct assembly of trigger parts. The only mistake in the video was the size of punches needed. I needed a 3/64 drift which I didnt have so I used a drill shank as punch. I didnt need the shims supplied in kit. The trigger pull on the SP101 is very smooth now and about half the original trigger pull.
Great video on polishing, hammer spring was easy to replace and gave most benefit. Received return spring length 0.875". Frame latch was very tight, trigger would only come 1/2 way back. Gunsmith replaced with shorter spring, now have reliable ignition at 4.5 lbs DA, very smooth. Can I send your spring back for testing/replacement? I had purchased the M*Carbo Trigger Spring Kit item #200033112220357 Mag|38 Spl|327 Mag|4-G-1 for my Ruger GP100 model 1771.This was order #357348 on 12/31/2020. I installed the Trigger Kit into my pistol using the YouTube video Ruger SP101 & GP100 Trigger Spring Kit - Ruger SP101 Trigger Job - M*CARBO - YouTube as a guide. After the disassembly, Trigger Kit installation, and reassembly of my firearm I found that my firearm would not cock in single action or double action. Believing that I had done something wrong in the reassembly, I disassembled the fire arm and reassembled it again following the YouTube video and still my pistol would not cock. After 8 hours of disassembly and reassembly I decided to call it a night and would tackle the project in the morning with a fresh set of eyes. The next day I did the disassembly and reassembly again following the YouTube video and still the pistol would not cock. I brought my pistol to a local Gun Smith and after some investigation he found that the .800 length Trigger Guard Latch Spring that came with the M*Carbo Trigger Kit was the problem. The .800 length Trigger Guard Latch Spring from the kit is the same length as the factory Trigger Guard Latch Spring, but does not have enough space between the spring coils to function properly. The Gun Smith put the factory Trigger Guard Latch Spring back into the pistol but left the M*Carbo Hammer Strut Mainspring from the kit in the pistol. Also during the disassembly and reassembly process I have lost one of the .001 trigger shims. I want you to know what my experience was with installing the M*Carbo Trigger Spring Trigger Kit. If I can get a .001 trigger shim that would be wonderful.
Watched and followed the detail video provided by Mcarbo. Disassembled my Ruger GP100 match champion. Polished all the parts shown in the video when reassembling the pistol. Hammer would not go in, trigger couldn't be pulled the whole ways to the rear. After a few minutes of frustration. I thought about the length of the trigger spring . So I disassembled the pistol put in the original trigger spring in. And felt a sigh of relief my pistol functioned the way it should. Fast forward about an hour I started thinking about the t likes of the spring provided by Mcarbo. So I decided to cut it down and match it with the original spring. And reinstalled it everything seems to work very well trigger pull is a hell of a lot lighter lockup seems very good
I’ve ordered 2 sets of these springs and both worked perfectly. The video you can watch is extremely helpful and I am 100% pleased with everything to do with this company. Will do business with again.
