Simple kit, but coupled with the great tutorial video makes this product an excellent upgrade.

I have a very expensive custom GP100, and now my wife’s SP101 rivals my GP for trigger pull quality. The little SP has a slightly heavier hammer spring, but seems to be reliable with all ammunition (unlike my fancy Gemini.) Lots of polishing on the moving parts, cleaning up the forcing cone, crown, and cylinders, new front sight and bead blasting the frame gave me a full custom pistol for under $100. I can’t ask for more than that, plus I did all the work at home over a few evenings.

I bought this kit in hopes that the DA pull would be reduced for the .357 Mag. I did not measure with an instrument before or after. So, after performing the upgrade and testing with dry fire, I did not notice any difference in the DA pull weight. The SA pull weight reduction is noticeable. A good breeze will trigger the SA. I have taken it to the range and found that my factory new ammo (CCI Blazer Brass 158 grain) fires just fine. I shot 50 rounds of that without any issues. Then I tried some ammo that I reloaded myself. Out of 25 rounds, maybe 10 had light strikes and would only fire after the 2nd or 3rd attempt. I had one round that would not fire after several attempts. The primers are CCI #550 (small pistol magnum). I had not had issues with reloads prior, so I will be putting the hammer spring back to factory. Once I do that, I will test again and if the same results occur, I will update this review.

Like the end result, but not quite as advertised

I have the GP100 in both .357 and .22LR. I followed the instructions in the video (great video by the way with detailed steps) and polished all the parts and reassembled with the new springs. The side to side play was much tighter on both of my revolvers than the one shown for demonstration in the video, so I'm wondering if Ruger tightened up the tolerances on models manufactured 2021 and newer? Or perhaps the one in the video had 1,000+ rounds through it? I was able to get just 1 shim in both the trigger and the hammer, but I don't really think there was a lot of excess play to begin with in both of my revolvers. Overall, the DA pull seems smoother, but in terms of force or pounds of pull, I cannot discern a difference by just the feel of it. I would imagine if I had taken a before/after measurement with a trigger pull gauge, it would show an improvement, but I know it is not anywhere close to the advertised 50%. I am still glad I did it if only for the way the pull feels smoother and more like a broken in gun, likely from the polishing. Not sure how much the springs are a factor on this model for me. I would do it again, but only giving 3 stars as I had hopes of a 50% decrease in DA pull.

Love these kits

I own two bobed hammered snubbie sp101's.

Watched the install video till I no longer needed it for dis, and re-assembly.

The kits and shims went in like a dream. Polishing was fun as well, I don't own

a trigger tension measuring device but pull and smoothness are both markedly

different.

Excellent job by MCarbo

Love this kit!

I am in the process of installing my third kit! I told a friend about this kit for his SP101 in 9mm. I installed it for him and his Ruger went from being one of his least favorite to his EDC.

Love this kit!

Every time I think I won't buy anymore I end up with something that needs it. I have done kits for some friends and for myself. I can't recommend it more.

Made the SP101 into a Pleasure to Use.

Ruger sp101, while reliable, is a difficult to use firearm, even with the Hogue aftermarket grips. Breaking at 12 lbs. the rapid fire groups were on target, but larger than expected. Considered trading when I found M*CARBO and I am glad I did. To me I improved the value and usefulness of the firearm 100% and dropped the groupings by 50%. Great value even if you need to send to factory to install.

Makes a difference

I have installed shim kits/springs in many of my Blackhawks, this was a great deal more challenging. The video was essential to dismantling and assembly of the firearm. A lot of video of the bling polish job, and seemed like the very details were kind of rushed thru. But just watch it a couple of times pause and rewind and it can be done. I think Chris enjoyed it more than I did. I'm old and the kit install wore me out. DA definitely much better. SA not as good as a Blackhawk, that was what I was hoping for. Wonder if even lighter springs would still be reliable? Good close up video of the internals, for assembly. I give it 5 stars.

Massive Improvement

Ruger GP100,

Double Action,

Before - double action pull was over what my scale could read.

After - 7 lbs.

Single Action,

Before - 6 lbs.

After - 2.5 lbs. with stoning and polishing.

Mission accomplished

I recently used this trigger. / spring kit to improve the trigger pull on my SP 101. The videos were invaluable in guiding me through the project, which in included polishing the contacting surfaces. If you are comfortable working with small parts and following the video, your SP101 can have a much improved trigger. Watch the video(s) twice before you start!

My GP100 had a horrific trigger, gritty and very heavy. So I hit YouTube to see what I could do myself.... I happened across MCARBO’s channel and watched the entire video. I’ve got “a bitchin’ set of tools” so I figured that I could fix anything. I purchased the spring kit, shim kit ,polishing kit and got to work. The end result was a crisp drag free single action and a reduction of pull on double action. I did have an issue with the trigger reset spring (my GP is kinda older) so I called for technical support and was offered several options to be certain that I was satisfied. THESE GUYS ARE 100%!!!! Patrick was helpful and Very knowledgeably! Watch the video, order the full kit and get to work. Buy with confidence.

More than just a product.

The new springs and shims are not everything. Polishing the surfaces makes a huge difference too.

The extras included in the package are a wonderful surprise.

This is a company that really seems to care and feel genuine about people, product, and mission.

Thanks you, this is a great kit.

This kit is awesome when combined with the polishing kit for the complete trigger job package. My only complaint is when the replacement trigger return spring is installed my gp100 will not function so parts of this kit didn’t work for me. Overall it has been an improvement to the trigger and that’s what I wanted. Would buy again or suggest to friends without hesitation.

I sent a new Ruger .38 to have a non factory spring kit installed because the gun was difficult for me to fire. Upon its return, I still experienced more difficulty than I wanted and was very disappointed in my Ruger purchase. I really thought I’d ultimately have to sell the gun and continue my search for the perfect conceal/carry weapon.

I spoke with Mike about my issues, specifically, that after firing 5 times, the hammer seemed to “stick.” Mike encouraged me to send the gun back to MCarbo, at their expense, and told me if they couldn’t resolve the issue, which might have been a binding issue, they’d forward the gun to Ruger. Much to my delight, it wasn’t a binding issue and after reinstalling shims, along with a great deal of firing, my gun was returned to me and is now operating very smoothly. So far I’m very happy. I also know that if I experience any more issues, MCarbo will go the extra mile to make it right.

I’d highly recommend MCarbo for your gun needs. These guys know what they’re doing and their customer service exceeds any you will find anywhere today. One last thing - their “hold” music is unbelievably fantastic!

Much better pull now

Can’t attest to longevity quite yet but I’m confident it’ll work fine. Took it to the range the day after installing both springs on my DAO as well as the hammer shims (will be doing trigger shims on polishing day) and it was much more comfortable and fired every shot fine. I liked the SP101 felt when I first got it, now I love it!

Much easier to shoot

So before the installation, the trigger was so heavy I couldn’t even pull it using the pad of my finger, now it’s at least half as heavy and feels less gritty.

Right after the installation I was having issues with the trigger getting stuck if I pulled too slow. After removing the hammer and oiling the contact points on the transfer bar while pulling the trigger, it seems to have flushed out some left-over grime I missed and smoothed it out.

I have yet to take it to the range but overall it seems to more functional and I enjoyed learning about the revolver’s internals as I followed the video.
