After discussing this with the great people at M*CARBO, they sent me the 9mm version for my .40 cal FPC. The fit was PERFECT and it works flawlessly. Much safer too in my opinion.
The optic rail is great, lines up perfectly with the rail on the barrel height wise. The replacement latch is MUCH slicker to use than the stock charging handle, when folding it locks in with no effort. Unfolding is just a button press instead of the stock method of working against the entire recoil spring by pulling the charging handle or creating lots of wear by forcing it open. The new charging handle is also quicker and easier to use with either hand. The only caveat is if you have 23 round magazines in the stock it works but only *just.* When slingshotting the charging handle to get past the bolt release you have to press the handle INTO the mags. I'm not sure what other design constraint they were working against that made them not do this but: It appears there's plenty of room to move the handle forward on the slider even 1/8th of an inch. Or angle the handle slightly if the root of it needs to be that far back. That way it wouldn't hit the mags and there would be more clearance when inserting/removing mags from the stock. Maybe for gen II.
The charge handle is easy to install, but it will hit the magazines if they are in the holders in the stock. Not sure if this have any affect when shooting but it is annoying. It can also get in the way when removing the magazines from the stock. Optic mount must have been made on a Monday by someone hungover. The grooves on top for the picatinny rail are too narrow. Had to file them wider to get my Holosun magnifier to fit, as well as my rear Iron sight. The factory S&W rail has no problem fitting, but the Mcarbo part won't fit anything without filing. The screws that come in the kit are a weird size that don't fit any standard or metric allen head tools. Torx head won't work either. And the cheap wrench in the kit strips out instantly. Hopefully I got everything tight, but I won't know for sure until I take it to the range. I would also recommend getting the optic mount without the rear peep sight. It sits too high and cannot be adjusted, plus the fact that you can't remove it and still keep the lock mechanism. Just skip it.
I purchased the charging handle only which means the gun can't be locked in the folded position. If that is an issue for you, buy the whole thing. This charging handle really is a great upgrade. The original plastic charging handle works, but you have to question its durability. Plus, the M-Carbo handle being below makes it much easier and faster to engage. If you store the spare mags in the stock, they are a little too close to the handle, but don't seem to interfere with the operation. Still, a little practice will help you figure out the best way to make everything work. All in all, this is a great product.
I purchased this to be able to install a Magnifier/DOT Combo (example: SIG Romeo/Juliet). Problem was that the rail did not give proper eye relief for using a Magnifier. Comes with everything needed. I absolutely love the Charging Handle. It is a Game Changer!
This is a game changer for my 10mm FPC. The old system was really hard to unlock to fold open, this is very simple and a major improvement. I like the new charging handle, although I am having a little issue with how close it gets to the magazines when pulling it back all the way to put a round in. But its not a functional complication more personal preference. The rail mount is perfectly place and long enough to put an optic and a sling mount with room to spare
I got it for the 10mm. Seems silly that I need a small tool and 3 hands to rack a round. If I could go back I would have never bought this gun.
Great idea but needs some fine tuning on the charging handle as far as shape/location as it interferes with mnags stored in the stock. Also, the supplied hardware is poor quality and not even the same type of tool for install. They send you a decent Torx tool to remove the existing screws but the longer replacements for the optic mount are inverted hex, and the head is not machined very deep therefore you cannot get a good bite with the cheap little allen key provided and it is difficult to tell how tight you have it as it slips out very easily. The key is VERY soft and mine started to round off before the second screw was even tight. Why they didn't use the same type screw as original is beyond me. Time will tell if they loosen up or not
A bit pricey, but overall love the product easy to assemble and keeps the charging handle from ripping my beard out. Plus it allows me to use my green dot and magnifier now as well
I was pleased to see this new upgrade for my FPC, as I was tired of the original charging handle smacking me in the face. It only took about 15 minutes to install and it works great. Thanks for making this valuable upgrade!
The M*CARBO FPC Max Performance Upgrade Kit installed cleanly with solid fitment and improved build quality over factory components. The extended charging handle enhances ergonomics and provides more positive manipulation. 23-round magazine storage compatibility is reduced, but switching to 17-round magazines improved balance and resolved fitment constraints. Initial function checks are good. Live-fire testing pending to validate performance under recoil and optic stability
