I had high hopes for this relatively simple solution for substantially reducing the trigger pull on my 590A1 Mossberg. Seemed straightforward (and it was). Now, to check trigger pull. My pre-installation pull was 6.5lb-7lb. After installation, the trigger pull was 5.8lb-6.2lb. I could have been very happy with a drop close to a 4lb pull, but it's nowhere near that. Not even close. BTW - the installation tool, which is nothing more than a wooden dowel with a slot cut into the end was questionable as well. First, the diameter was too large to fit into the spring hole without some substantial sanding. Second, it is very fragile. The least bit of sideload (and I mean even a TINY bit) will break the ear(s) off. Not a huge deal as there's plenty of dowel to allow reconfiguring by cutting off the broken end and cutting a new slot (I used a Dremel and cut-off wheel). Perhaps some dryfire trigger time will loosen it up some, but honestly, if I had it to do over again, I would pass, as claims of dropping from 6.5lbs to 3.5lbs did not materialize on my gun. Your mileage may vary.
Very disappoint bc my mossberg Turkey thugs model the hammer spring is ok with it and now the trigger spring is to short by alot so now I have to take it to a shop to get a new trigger spring
I used this spring kit on a Maverick 88 trigger group. The worked well and greatly reduced the trigger pull. I used a 5-40 set screw in the trigger to adjust take up, so can't comment on how well the kit addresses that aspect. The install tool (modified dowel) helped immensely and was well worth the $2. The Maverick 88 trigger is slightly different than the 500 and 590 triggers. It took a little bit to figure it out, but overall about 40 mins to swap out the springs. For $22 (springs and tool) I'm very impressed. It is definitely a best buy and great upgrade for your shotgun. The only thing that could be better is if they included a 5-40 screw for adjusting trigger take up.
The gunsmiths trigger gauge did not go high enough to measure the trigger pull. with the springs in, it made quite a difference. He aid the springs were easy to install. I preferred an expert do it although, it doesn't look that hard.
I'm giving the product 5 stars because it works as advertised and greatly reduced the trigger pull and improved the feel However the installation on the Maverick 88 is not as easy one would assume. Took a few attempts to keep the trigger spring in place when re-installing trigger all while manipulating the hammer spring in place (took me some time to determine its proper orientation as well). Hammer spring appears to be of a different design from the 500 variants. Get the tool (I didn't) because it may save you some unnecessary agony if you lack any patience or better yet take it to gunsmith. Overall you will be pleased with the product.
I was not unhappy with my factory trigger but wanted to see if this kit made a significant enough difference for me to consider adding it to my other 2 Mossberg 500 shotguns. It does make for a better trigger pull. For $19.95 I think it’s worth it. Installation was easy and the wooden dowel tool helped.
I ordered this spring kit for my 20 gauge mossberg 500 with rifled barrel. It will be used primarily for deer hunting. It lowered the trigger pull from 6-7 lbs. down to 4-4.5 lbs.The shipping was fast and service is great. thanks!
Nothing great to say about this kit... it's just springs... they do fit and function properly but my 590 20ga went from 6.5lbs to 5.5lbs not the 3.5lbs as advertised... not really a noticeable difference from factory but the trigger still feels good and everything works so I'll leave the kit installed.
The only issue I had was the fact "it's much easier with the spring compression tool." I, probably like some others, didn't notice/purchase that tool. It would have been helpful to show an alternate method of assembly/disassembly.
Fast shipping. Took a pound off the trigger pull. A little pricey but, a good up-grade.
20 gauge Mossberg 500 reduced trigger pull from 7.5 lbs to 4 lbs the video made install a breeze and function is perfect.
Worth every penny, can’t beat it for a $20 trigger job, cuts trigger weight down to roughly half of factory in my 88
Went from 4.5lbs to 2.9lbs. Went in great. Video was very informative. Thanks
Purchased the trigger spring kit and installation tool, installation took about 20 minutes. Trigger pull was 7 lbs before and 4 lbs after a reduction of 42.8%, very pleased with the results!
I received the part in a timely manner and installed it based on the installation video that mcarbo has on their website. The install was very simple and after putting the shotgun back together it performed flawlessly and the trigger was much smoother.
