I found it difficult to install. At my age{75} the spring was hard to compress. I ended up inserting a small screw driver through the spiral of the spring and through the lower portion as it sat in a block of wood with a 3/8 hole in in . As I rotated the screw driver around the spring, it compressed it. Works great once installed. Easy to take apart , clean, and assemble to clean the gun.

Alan from Indiana, if you purchased a Mcarbo charging handle, you'd understand what this product is for. You don't need it for the OEM charging handle (that's why the product description says it's for **Aftermarket** charging handles).

I must agree with POS. Had same issue with recoil spring. I had to order a new recoil spring one from KEL-TEC. As a Veteran, like most of us are, we have disabilities, for me is 4 hand surgeries to correct Trigger Finger. No way I was able to install this product. I would recommend you sell the product already installed on the recoil spring.

5 for the product 3 for the instructions

There's a super easy way to install this thing. Use two allen keys or punches to "walk" the spring into place. Having some lube on the pins makes them easy to pull out and insert. Put the first pin below the point you want to lock at the midpoint of the spring, press down, insert the 2nd pin, press down, remove the 1st pin and put it above the 2nd, etc. Repeat until you have room to install the locking pin with no pressure or torque. No backplate or drilled piece of wood needed.

A must

This locking pin came with my charging handle. It is a must upgrade for the sub. It sits securely on the spring with no worries of disengagement. The install video is a must see for an easy problem free install

A must have

After contending with installing this "wonder" item for over three hours, I further had to deal with a recoil spring that fell apart in the process. Now I have a useless recoil spring, a part that cannot be installed, and a rifle that won't work. If you truly enjoy being frustrated to no end by all means buy one of these things (but don't say I didn't warn you). I attempted to resolve the problem by simply ordering a new recoil spring from Kel-Tec only to find that they are out of stock (makes be wonder if other frustrated M*Carbo customers also resorted to this option). Pity I can't give this less than one star. As a suggestion from left field, why don't the folks at M*Carbo acquire some Sub 2000 recoil springs, install these pins, and sell them at a reasonable price??

A simple, effective fix

Installation was simple, only took a few minutes. Ordered this as I had already upgraded the charging handle prior to this upgraded part.

I purchased 3 of them. No more using screw drivers and fight to find the alignment. Well made as to be expected. For the first one, I used the video to install it, (had to call a friend to help). second one I attempted to build a tool to help, ( wound up with both ends off) had to use two Allen wrenches to compress the spring. The third one I used the Twist method. One minute install. (found on the forum) If you are going to install on use this method it works

Awaiting Test Run

After getting the email about the New Update, I jumped on it real quick and ordered...I received it yesterday and found for me since I have bigger hands, I used a bench top vice to compress the spring to slide in the allen key...I had a little trouble with the one end pin sliding down in, but once I got it to stay put, I had 3 attempts and was able to get the new pin on..Very Happy for the update and so much easier to put it all back together...Easier Field Strip 👍

Better buy that block!

I tore all the skon off my fjngers pulling the speing back over and over and trying to insert the pin to hold it back. Had wuite the time but i fjnally got it. I cant help but assume it would have been so mivh easier if I had one of the blocks to hold the base. Once ready to go in the weapon I do like how it is so muvh easier to get the charging handle to stay in. Makes assembly muvh quicker.

Charging handle nirvana achieved!

If you've read the reviews of the recoil-less charging handle that MCarbo offers, you may have seen my less than stellar review where I expressed my frustration that my new charging handle was pretty much a fancy paperweight since the original retention pin was so difficult to use. I am happy to report that with the new retention pin that problem is solved, and my Sub2k is now sporting the new charging handle with style and security! Whoo Hoo!

As is typical with MCarbo products, the build quality is excellent and the installation video is clear and effective. The install of the new retention pin is a bit tricky (I ended up need to enlist an extra set of hands), but ultimately not particularly difficult. With the upgrade installed my charging handle is held extremely securely, and I can easily strip and assemble the weapon without the need for a long magnetic screwdriver (and lots of cursing)! I couldn't be happier with the upgrade, especially since I can make use of the improved charging handle as well. Thank you MCarbo for listening, and responding, to customer needs; a greatly appreciated hallmark of a well-run company.

A note to the MCarbo marketing folks, if a completely new recoil spring with the upgraded retention clip pre-installed were available from MCarbo, I would have happily paid 5-8x what I paid just for the retention clip to have a simple drop-in replacement for the whole unit.

Definitely worth it.

As owners of the carbine know the locking pin is a pain for takedown and cleaning of the rifle. This fixes everything; okay it only fixes the pin issue and that makes it good.

Now installing this pin is really a pain and I mean literal pain. Compressing the recoil spring is no easy matter, but once it's installed you'll love it. Hey maybe someone will come up with a Sub2K recoil spring compression tool!

Difficult, but worth it.

Excellent part that makes things much easier. Had to order a third one for two weapons, since the first one is still in orbit somewhere in the garage. This is a difficult project for us old men. I had to use a vice to hold the spring after I got it compressed and retained, but did get the second one in.

Do not think this is easy

I watched the video three times, drilled a larger hole in my gun smith block. Collected my tools and got started, wear eye pro! Do yourself a favor have someone close by to assist! After I struggled for an hour to line everything up I found myself needing another set of hands my problem was having everything compressed but no way to secure the charging handle pin lock! So I screamed and finally my 14 year old daughter came to my rescue! Hardest install I have accomplished and I have installed everything there is to put on the sub 2000. Great products love em!
