No I have pretty much redone my sub 2000 with almost every upgrade MCabo has to offer. Now this one was a bit of a pain how to install but it is a great upgrade. BUT I would suggest that you guys consider offering a complete captured spring with this attached for buyers. I think I filled the family swear jar with quarters equal to the value of the purchase price. Lol. Just a suggestion for a future keep it up guys. You have great products.
After installing a new charging handle with the old style locking pin this is a fantastic modification. It was easy to install due to the great install video. your videos are very real and you don't edit out when theirs trouble areas with installs. One next thing for my sub-2000 and that's the trigger kit. Thanks McCarbo!
Great to know that I don't have to worry about losing this part and my charging handle in the field anymore. Now, I really feel confident having my Sub2K as my truck survival gun.
My wife installs all of my upgrades (not sharing how I managed that lol) she installed the mcarbo charging handle when I got it and cussed a lot while trying to get that little pin in place and refused to clean the gun for that reason. She spent some time installing this part simply because she's stubborn and wouldn't accept my help to compress the spring but once she got it compressed everything fell into place easily. This design is great and really made fields stripping and cleaning a lot easier and faster.
I have a Sub 2K gen 2 and purchased this part when it first came out last summer. Shipment was immediate, as usual. I didn’t get around to taking my gun apart to install it on the spring until a few weeks ago. I followed the instructions in the video, but found that I did not have the strength to compress the spring enough to mount the locking pin. I contacted MCarbo for advice and sent the pin and my spring in for them to install for me. It was back in a matter of days and works perfectly. Thank you for the extremely useful solution to the locking pin hassle and for the even better service.
I of course didn't read the instructions/watch the video and said the same curses that everyone reading this did. Compressing an oily spring under compression using only your hands WILL remove skin and maybe an eyeball - here's how to work smarter not harder: * a 3/8" deep socket in a vice holds the spring nicely. If you don't have a socket set, back away from the weapon and find someone who does. * get a paperclip, it will help prevent "pushing" the freed link into the captured link. * compress the spring as shown, insert the little hex wrench, and bend the papercip into a tight U below the hex at 90 deg to capture the upper loop. * Thread the spring down the hex/paperclip into the compressed captured end in the vice - screw it down like a bolt. * once tension is off the top spring keeper, swapping in the new improved part is cake. I spent 10 minutes cursing, pooped a beer and then it took maybe 45 seconds using this approach.
I am very impressed with M-Carbo for rethinking and reworking this critical part. This is a HUGE improvement over the original pin that came with the charging handle. I am way more confident with how these parts interact now. Installation was relatively easy and if necessary, get a buddy to help you with a third hand. Thanks M-Carbo!
I have absolutely NO IDEA what this part is supposed to do, even after watching the video 3 TIMES. It seems to be a "fix" for a problem that doesn't exist. Exactly WHAT is it supposed to do? When I reassemble my S2K, I have no problem finding the flat spot on the charging handle to lock up with the spring.
Maybe it's my age I'm turning 68. I compressed the spring but I was unable to get the pin to attach. I tried for so long that I sprained a finger . I ended up sending to KelTec for a new spring, I was unable to get the spring back together. Very frustrating, I have not had any issues installing all the other parts on the Sub 2000.

Tired of breaking down your rifle and having the locking pin pop out and roll off into oblivion when you pull out the recoil spring? Tired of trying to reinstall that pin using a long screwdriver? This guy is your answer. I’m that older guy with arthritis that Chris was talking about in the install video. No offense to anyone, but I think a lot of people make this install more difficult than it needs to be. I guess I think outside of the box as I had little trouble installing this. I simply drilled a hole in a block of wood and inserted the recoil spring in there to hold it steady. I used a small screwdriver to compress the spring then I stuck a second screwdriver through the coils and through that wire loop to maintain the compression. (A screwdriver is easier on your hands than using that skinny allen wrench.) I did this multiple times compressing the spring a little further each time. Yah, it does take a little strength to get the spring compressed enough, but once you do just take one of those little screw drivers (or the allen wrench) and stick it through the spring coils under that wire loop, relax for a minute and take a breath. During this process I did not once have to use my hands or fingers on the spring and risk losing any skin. After this, I followed the video exactly. I stuck a screwdriver through the coils under the tab, compressed a bit, angled the metal tab and rotated the screwdriver around to spread the wires and the tab popped right off. I slightly compressed the spring a bit, rotated to spread those wires apart again and popped in the locking pin. It’s no more difficult than removing that tab you just popped off. If it isn’t easy then you’re doing it wrong. Check your work before allowing the spring to fully decompress then reassemble the weapon. No more needing a screwdriver to assemble and no more losing or chasing after the locking pin. M*CARBO has designed a lot of great upgrades for the SUB-2000, but this is probably one of the most innovative and eliminates that little bit of frustration you might experience trying to reassemble the weapon and makes it just a tad easier.
The installation isn’t that difficult; however, I learned a few things. Spot the supplied Allen wrench about 5-6 spring turns ABOVE the internal wire loop. Use the Allen wrench IN COORDINATION with hand compression of the spring, and insert the Allen when you reach the most compression you can muster. The Allen wrench really aids in compressing the lower spring coils only. That’s what your after.
i'm waiting for my grandson to come over to help me i'm 70 and i haven't got what it takes to compress the spring, ill get back to ya with a review shortly.
I have a little story on this one !I pulled the stock tip off and the spring got away from me ! Well I must of got older and called MCARBO and they said they would send me a spring and a new tool-less tip on it ,i was very thankful .Their service is great, and i know how to wind it down now. Ha,Ha.

So glad I purchased this part. The installation video was very helpful. Had to enlist the help of my wife to insert the Allen wrench as my old hands didn’t allow for single-handed spring suppression. Once that was done the rest was a breeze. Re-insertion was a breeze. No need for a long screw driver to align the locking pin. Well done MCarbo!
