Like most Appleseed folk, I have a couple of rifles I keep around for loaners. Mine are model 795s.

I've used gear from MCARBO before. All four of my Marlins have benefitted from the trigger kits, which are extremely effective and very reasonably priced. They are "fun" to install, as they consist mostly of a ton of springs, but that's Marlin's fault, not MCARBO's. As the owner of four of these beauties you can imagine the cussing that went on by Mr. Smith during the installation of those kits. I'm fortunate to still have him. I'm pretty sure it was touch and go there for awhile **)

Last week I ordered the pre-2008 rail for my 1989 Model 60, to "test drive" the product before ordering them for the rest of the pack.

Gents, this rail is a game-changer.

As I'm sure you've experienced yourselves, no amount of loctite and screw tightening can truly prevent the ring bases from "walking" off the dovetail on a 22 that gets used heavily. Once I had one fall right off the dang rifle in the middle of a shoot. I was MORTIFIED.

Problem number two is the difficulty finding TRULY low height rings in a dovetail configuration. Even the lowest require building up the cheek risers. My personal Appleseed rifle is the model 60 with a Boyd's stock. Even that higher stock needs more lift to get me in proper alignment with the scope, and that's CRIMINAL given how pretty the stock is. Vanity (thy name is rifle owner) has me getting a "jaw weld" instead of a cheek weld that, while repeatable, gets damn uncomfortable after awhile, and leaves me coming up with creative explanations for the bruise on my jaw ;)

The rail arrived Thursday, and was installed Friday, the eve of our inaugural all-ladies here in El Paso, TX. I had some picatinny rings lying around that were so low that even with the increased receiver height (just under 1/4 inch higher with the rail) I was able to more than compensate, to the point that I had to remove the factory rear sight ramp so the optical lens would have clearance. Conclusion: No more "jaw" weld! I can finally get a REAL cheek weld without ugly-ing up my rifle!

I took it with me to the event, as I haven't requalified in some time, and took a few minutes on Saturday to zero.

Sunday during the AQT Grind I had a chance to shoot an AQT, and pulled a score of 241 out of my butt on a cold rifle.

The proof is in the pudding.

My other 60 and both my 795s WILL be getting this upgrade.
