KEL-TEC SUB-2000 Optic Mount

Two Optic Mount Options Available:

  • Right Handed - Mounts to the left side of the SUB-2000, allowing off-hand operation.
  • Left Handed - Mounts to the right side of the SUB-2000, also for off-hand operation.

This SUB-2000 optic mount offers a robust base that connects directly through the SUB-2000 handguard, making it a premier choice for those wanting to integrate a red dot optic on their KEL-TEC SUB-2000 without compromising the firearm's folding functionality.

Extensively tested, the mount ensures consistent and repeatable zero retention even after repeated usage.

It's compatible with most popular red dot optics that attach to a MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny Rail.

Looking for a reliable scope mount for your KEL-TEC SUB-2000? The M*CARBO Optic Mount is your ideal choice.

Additionally, if you're seeking a red dot for this mount, we recommend the Sig Sauer version of the Holosun Romeo5 Red Dot. We've tested four of these on our mounts with excellent results. The specific model is the Sig Sauer SOR52001 Romeo5 1x20mm Compact 2 Moa Red Dot Sight in black, which offers great value for its price.

Easy to assemble/mount and works great with Vortex red dot. Adding furniture to this bugout gun is really fun. Ordering muzzle break shortly and probably new trigger.

Not perfect, but one of the better options
review-star review-star review-star review-star review-star
As of right now there appear to be three different options for optics mounting that allow a Gen 2 Sub 2000 to fold. There is one that mounts to the Mlok slots in the side of the rails, but that option isn't as secure because the mlok rails are plastic. The other one is a rotating handguard, which I haven't tried.

This mount allows the optic to flip away to the side, getting it out of the way soothe rifle can fold. Unfortunately, depending on the optic size, it can more than triple the thickness of the rifle when folded. It's otherwise a good option, especially if you are more concerned with length than width when folding the Sub 2000.

Another advantage of this option is since the mounting location is closer to the rifles rear sight, you can use optics with less eye relief than is required for rail mounting. It gets the optic at least 4 inches closer to your eye than anything mounted to the rail.

It is held in the shooting position under spring power, so if you put any pressure on the sight while aiming, it could move it out of zero until the pressure is removed.

I think if I were going to redesign this, I'd use a spring loaded hinge that you push the sight rearward against the spring to unlock a wedge cut into the hinge, then pivot the sight away and have a detent that holds it in place. This would make for a positive repeatable lockup while in the shooting position and would be unaffected by pressure on the sight.

It still wouldn't solve the problem of thickness while folded. It's a compromise, but a worthwhile one if you want a mounted optic. If you can't fold the Sub 2000, it really loses a ton of its appeal and utility.

So a product like this is really almost essential. If only there were a way to deal with the optic while folded. I suppose the simplest answer is a quick detach .ount for the optic than can be clamped to the bottom rail while folded and the top rail while shooting, but it's a lot slower, and you lose the advantage of getting it closer to your eye.

Now that the Gen 3 Sub 2000 is out, this problem has been tackled by KelTec. But for those of us with Gen 2, this is among the better options.

I have tried a number of Optics that have not worked, the +/- many were 50 MOA didn't center. I am going to buy a Romeo 5 because MCarbo said they have tested with it and it work reliably. Can you install it with the 1.41 riser or does it need a lower install. Please Advise because not all come with both options. Thanks, I really hate the sub200 sights and have upgraded this gun with a ton of mcarbo parts steel ramp, recoil buffer, ordered Aluminum trigger and guard, screws and receivers . But I really want to get this optic figured out. I have 2 AR, and 5 pistols all with optics. I have experience zeroing them, but the mcarbo optic plate has baffled me with some of the rifledots I like. Please advise about Romeo5. Thanks!

Question:
Your video tutorial does not even mention the "shims" included in the kit. I felt no need for them in the installation. Why are they included and how would one install them?
newens August 26, 2022 1:22 AM
Answers
They are included because every firearm is different and some of the fore ends are not exactly the same so the shims are good to give it that little bit of extra clearance to straighten up the mount to keep it in line with the existing rails. There is a small instructional booklet to go through if you install and the optic mount is canted either way and the sight isn't properly aligned.

Question:
What is the max scope weight you recommend for use?
GoGoGadgetGun April 21, 2022 11:54 AM
Answers
We don't have a set number as far as weight recommendation, as our mount can hold and maintain zero with any optic/scope you can fit, but you will likely run into issues with rail length before having to worry about the weight itself. We have had some customers mount an extended rail on the optic mount in order to then mount a longer scope, and have had good results with it maintaining zero even with that added weight. We would just advise a little added caution if/when flipping a larger setup like that out to the side to fold the rifle to avoid losing your grip and dropping the weapon.

Weight will not be an issue with our mount, but the Pic Rail only measures about 1.5 inches in length, so depending on your specific optic, there may not be enough rail for those larger units.

Question:
How high is the section of rail on the optic mount relative to the rail on the fore end of the Sub 2k? Is it even/level? Would I need a riser to make the rest of the fore end rail even with the optic mount rail?
December 30, 2021 7:13 PM
Answers
Hello, the Optic Mount Rail is approximately .350 - .375 inches higher than the polymer pic rail on the fore end. You should be able to add a riser to the fore end pic rail if you would like to make them even, but remember, mounting anything to the top of the fore end will prevent the folding ability of the rifle.

Easy to assemble/mount and works great with Vortex red dot. Adding furniture to this bugout gun is really fun. Ordering muzzle break shortly and probably new trigger.
Thanks!

Perfect

Question:
Thanks!

It is user preference. The thought process is that the shooter would use the non-firing hand to manipulate the mount.

Rather than permanently modifying your Sub2000, I would recommend using a rail riser to get your red dot higher up. It would also allow you to have your iron sights for backups.

Question:

newens August 26, 2022 1:22 AM

They are included because every firearm is different and some of the fore ends are not exactly the same so the shims are good to give it that little bit of extra clearance to straighten up the mount to keep it in line with the existing rails. There is a small instructional booklet to go through if you install and the optic mount is canted either way and the sight isn't properly aligned.

What is the max scope weight you recommend for use?
GoGoGadgetGun April 21, 2022 11:54 AM

Hello, the Optic Mount Rail is approximately .350 - .375 inches higher than the polymer pic rail on the fore end. You should be able to add a riser to the fore end pic rail if you would like to make them even, but remember, mounting anything to the top of the fore end will prevent the folding ability of the rifle.
